From 1997 to 2003, it appeared as The New Crisis: The Magazine of Opportunities and Ideas, but the title has since reverted to The Crisis. The title derives from the poem “The Present Crisis” by James Russell Lowell. Published monthly, the journal in its first year had a circulation of 1,000 and by 1918 had over 100,000 readers. It remains a chronicle magazine of Black history and the Civil Rights Movement. This collection on DVD contains 395 issues of The Crisis all in PDF format. Page length varies, each issue is about 40-60 pages. Please note that this collection contains scans of old magazines, some of which were in poor condition before being rescued and digitized for posterity. This means that you may see some covers with creases and tears that show up in the scans.
